Synopsis

Told through the eyes of Tall Paul, My House drops you into the sweat, bass, and chaos of the 1990s club boom, as one family fights to build something London has never seen. When licensing laws are strangling nightlife, John Newman refuses to fold. He pushes for later hours, then lands an experimental 24 hour music and dance licence that changes everything, and makes Turnmills the place everyone wants in. 

With the door finally open, visionary promoter Laurence Malice brings the concept that turns Turnmills into a phenomenon, Trade, “the original all night bender”, followed by in house nights like The Gallery, attracting the world’s biggest DJs and putting London at the centre of the movement.

Success comes with a cost. The authorities circle, the stakes rise, and one night of shocking violence rocks the club and hits the family hard. In the end, Turnmills earns its place in music history, before one final, emotional farewell as the building faces demolition and the club closes in 2008.

Background

Set against the rise of the London house scene, My House centres on Turnmills, the first 24 hour nightclub in the UK, and the cultural shockwave it created. The story captures the battles with licensing, policing, and competition, while celebrating the era that launched, and hosted, some of the most influential names in dance music, including Tall Paul, Danny Rampling, Pete Tong, Sister Bliss, Carl Cox, Tiësto, and Paul Oakenfold.

BAFTA winning Ray Burdis writes and directs, with Tall Paul serving as Executive Producer and creative consultant to keep the detail authentic, while the film transports audiences back to the moment house music stopped being a subculture and became a worldwide force.
